Durrës is the main seaport and city on the Adriatic coast in Albania. The city is home to over 175,000 people.
The city’s infrastructure has benefited from investments in recent years. Nevertheless, the wastewater collection system is obsolete, prone to infiltration and flow disruption, and only the south part of the city has a separate stormwater and sewage network. Furthermore, only half of the city’s wastewater reaches the treatment plant, the rest being discharged untreated in the Adriatic, and around 20% of households use septic tanks.
The WBIF supports the preparation of the feasibility study, preliminary design, and environmental and social assessment to rehabilitate and develop a separate stormwater and wastewater network for the city.
