Mitrovica and Gjilan Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewerage Network Extension and Rehabilitation

Mitrovica and Gjilan Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewerage Network Extension and Rehabilitation

Project Description

This investment project concerns the extension and rehabilitation of the wastewater collection network and the construction of two centralised wastewater treatment plans for the Gjilan and Mitrovica municipalities in Kosovo* to collect and treat the wastewater to EU environmental standards. It will address critical wastewater treatment needs in these two municipalities and neighbouring communities, benefiting an estimated 321,000 inhabitants.

The project's implementation will significantly improve the quality of local freshwater resources by significantly reducing the volumes of raw wastewater and associated pollutant loads discharged into rivers. The project is also expected to increase the number of people connected to the sewage network.

The WBIF has provided technical assistance for project preparation and co-funds the investments with the EBRD and the EIB.
