The Project 'Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment in Medium-Sized Municipalities in Serbia VI' is set up as a programme focusing on the improvement of the quality of receiving water courses in Serbia and the enhancement of living conditions of the population in selected medium-sized Serbian municipalities/towns (over 30,000 inhabitants). The programme entails investments in wastewater infrastructure (wastewater treatment plants, sewerage network and collectors) in selected Serbian municipalities. The municipalities were selected in a transparent competitive procedure. Currently, the following municipalities are foreseen for the programme: Jagodina, Kikinda, Pirot, Pozarevac, Vrsac, Trstenik, Smederevo and Pancevo. The location of the municipalities can be verified in the below map. All municipalities are located close to rivers joining the Danube.
The programme entails the construction of new wastewater treatment plants (in Pirot, Trstenik, Pozarevac, Pancevo, Smederevo) and the rehabilitation/ extension to EU standards of existing wastewater treatment plants (in Jagodina, Vrsac, Kikinda). In addition, investments in the network foresee rehabilitation/ replacement of collectors, construction/ extension of wastewater transmission mains, and new sewage systems.
