Orient/East-Med Corridor: Belgrade Marshalling Yard – Ostruznica – Batajnica Railway Line

Orient/East-Med Corridor: Belgrade Marshalling Yard – Ostruznica – Batajnica Railway Line

Project Description

The single-track railway line (Belgrade Marshalling Yard) - Ostruznica - Batajnica is a direct connection with Corridor X, with main railway lines (Belgrade) Batajnica - Stara Pazova - Sid - border with Croatia, (Belgrade) - Stara Pazova - Novi Sad - Subotica - border with Hungary and Belgrade - Mladenovac – Nis - Preševoborder with Macedonia.

Belgrade marshalling yard Ostružnica - Batajnica is part of the European Corridor X, in the length of approximately 20 km. The line is electrified with single-phase system 25 kV, 50 Hz along the entire length. The railway line Belgrade Marshalling Yard - Ostružnica - Batajnica is primarily used for traffic of freight trains that transit or finish traffic at the Belgrade Marshalling Yard. The railway represents a bottleneck for the transport of freight trains through the Belgrade Node and becomes even more important due to the abolished infrastructure capacities in the Belgrade node for the implementation of the ‘Belgrade WaterFront’ project.

It is necessary to reconstruct e railway line Ostružnica - Batajnica in the length of 20 km with the characteristics of the railway infrastructure which will be defined on the basis of the Feasibility Study. This line connects Belgrade - Stara Pazova – Sid - State border - (Tovarnik) railway line with Stara Pazova - Novi Sad - Subotica - State border - (Kelebija) railway line. This will increase capacity and contribute to the development of intermodal transport, bearing in mind that commencement of works of construction of Intermodal terminal in Batajnica started in 2019.
