The towns and corresponding municipalities of Travnik, Novi Travnik, Busovaca and Vitez located in the Central Bosnian Canton, and Zenica, in the neighbouring Zenica-Doboj Canton, face chronic water supply shortages. The Plava Voda spring, located in the town of Travnik, has been used to a limited extent for the Travnik town water supply.
The objective of the intervention is to extend water abstraction from the Plava Voda spring to provide a reliable long-term regional water supply system for the concerned population in the municipalities of Travnik, Novi Travnik, Vitez, Busovaca and Zenica through a joint effort of the five municipalities. The new water supplies from Plava Voda will also contribute to reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases that have been prevalent in the participating municipalities.
A joint stock company, co-owned by the participating municipalities, has been established to manage the water supply and delivery to the five municipal water supply companies.
WBIF provided technical assistance for two main groups of tasks. The first group of tasks referred to the remaining elements of due diligence and project preparation including the assistance to the joint stock company at its establishment phase. The second group of tasks was related to the development of a Detailed Design and assistance during procurement.
