WBIF has supported the rehabilitation and expansion of water and wastewater infrastructure in two Serbian municipalities - Vranje and Uzice. The wastewater services in both municipalities have suffered from long-term underinvestment.
This WBIF technical assistance grant has funded the preparation of feasibility studies that covered the complete operating cycles of the water and wastewater companies in Vranje and Uzice. These studies have examined the companies' financial status, assessed the quality and reliability of the water supply services, investigated the adequacy of wastewater services, and highlighted environmental concerns.
The studies have also formulated long-term strategic investment programmes for both water supply and wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure, and prepared financial models of the operations of the companies to demonstrate the actions needed to ensure the long-term sustainability of operations in terms of technical, financial and environmental criteria.
