This WBIF technical assistance grant has financed the preparation of a Feasibility Study for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Berane. The municipality, including the Town of Berane and five other settlements, has an inadequate sewerage collection system and no wastewater treatment plant serving the town. All raw sewerage is discharged untreated to the local water courses or directly to the River Lim, and in some instances to open ground adjacent to the residential areas.
The objectives of the investment are to produce a significant positive public health impact through improved quantity and reliability of water supply and collection and treatment of wastewater in the Town of Berane, contribute to meeting Montenegro’s future needs for compliance with EU and national environmental legislation, and safeguard potable water resources and environmental quality for areas downstream under the influence of the River Lim.
