WBIF has provided technical assistance for the expansion of the sewage collection network and construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Bijeljina that benefit 40,000 inhabitants directly connected to the sewerage system and 85,000 inhabitants connected to the water supply system.
Technical assistance, provided through WBIF, has helped the project implementation unit (PIU) to prepare tender documents for procurement of works; manage and conduct the procurement process (publication of tenders, pretender meetings, tender opening sessions, evaluation of tenders and award of contracts); monitor and audit the performance of the contractors and the supervision consultant; and ensure timely delivery of the planned investments.
This investment positively contributed to reducing pollution of underground water and river water in the Drina-Dasnica channel and river Sava, improving the service quality of the water and wastewater company, decreasing waterborne diseases, and preserving the environment and public health.
