The losses in the distribution networks have been recognised as a key issue in the drinking water sector in BiH. In all municipalities connected to Plava Voda Supply System, the distribution networks were old and outdated, causing water losses in the system of up to 80%.
In order to improve the existing state and make good use of the water coming from Plava Voda spring, WBIF has provided technical assistance for the reconstruction of the existing distribution network in four municipalities connected to the Plava Voda regional water supply system: Novi Travnik, Vitez, Busovaca and Zenica.
WBIF TA grant has financed the preparation of detailed studies for leakage reduction and remedial measures for selected municipalities to ensure a secure, sufficient and sustainable water supply from the Plava Voda system. The benefits of the investment include improved quality of water supplies, increased cost-efficiency, reduced occurrence of waterborne diseases, and compliance with the EU Drinking Water Directive, among others.
