Within the scope of the Serbian government programme on judiciary facilities modernisation, prisons have also been included. Considering the increase in prison population and problems with regional or local allocation of existing district prisons compared to actual needs, it has been decided that the construction of two new prisons should be considered a priority. In this way, additional space in prison facilities would be created for 900 inmates by constructing new district prisons in Kragujevac and Pancevo for 400 and 500 inmates, respectively.
WBIF has provided comprehensive technical assistance, divided into four phases, aiming to cover the preparation of Feasibility Studies for the construction of both prisons, Preliminary, Final and Construction designs for both prisons, Tender Dossiers (including specifications; legal documents and description of the process), and supervision and monitoring of tender/procurement procedures.
Under the first phase of technical assistance, covered by this grant, support is provided for the preparation of the Feasibility Reports (FR) and Operational Plans (OP) for the two prison facilities.
