The District Heating Company in Gjakova commenced its operations in 1982 with a capacity of 38 MW but it operated at only 20 MW. It was designed to supply heat to domestic and industrial consumers, public institutions and businesses. As the district heating system relied on heavy fuel oil, the company’s operations became inefficient and costly, as the price of the fuel has risen significantly over years.
Building upon the results of the Identification Study funded by a previously approved WBIF TA grant, additional technical assistance was provided to further develop the preferred option agreed upon in the Identification Study, and prepare a detailed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Tender Document (TD) packages.
