This Programme concerns the rehabilitation of urban water supply and sewerage systems in selected medium-sized municipalities in North Macedonia. The overall objective of the Programme is to improve public water services, ensure a sustainable supply of drinking water at socially acceptable costs, and improve the overall living conditions in selected municipalities.
The Programme is divided into two phases, whereby access to Phase 2 is based on the achievement of specific performance indicators. Eight (8) municipalities were part of Phase 1: Bitola, Gevgelja, Gostivar, Kavadarci, Kočani, Negotino, Radoviš, and Tetovo. Three well-performing public utility companies (PUCs) from Phase 1 (Gostivar, Kavadarci and Radoviš) accessed additional funds under favourable conditions (the so-called interim phase).
Technical assistance, provided through WBIF, supported the absorption of funds available in the interim phase. In particular, technical assistance included the review of final designs for Gostivar, preparation of project designs for Kavadarci and Radoviš, and assistance with tendering and supervision of works (only in Kavadarci and Radoviš).
