The railway Durres - Elbasan - Lin is part of Corridor VIII that links three capitals - Tirana, Skopje and Sofia - between them and to important ports - the port of Durres in the Adriatic Sea and the ports of Burgas and Varna on the shores of Black Sea.
The rehabilitation of this 136 km long railway line and the construction of a 2.8 km missing line from Lin to the border with North Macedonia would significantly improve the connectivity of the Albanian railway system and enable goods transit from Adriatic Corridor in Italy, through the port of Durres (Albania), to North Macedonia and Bulgaria and further to eastward.
This WBIF technical assistance grant has supported the project preparation through two components. Component 1 covered the preparation of the pre-feasibility study, cost-benefit analysis and preliminary environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA). Component 2 referred to the preparation of the feasibility study for the first priority section which was decided to be Durres-Rroghozina including preliminary design and preliminary ESIA according to local requirements.
