Batajnica is located in the northernmost and the westernmost part of Belgrade's urban area close to the Danube's right bank. The Batajnica wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is selected as the first out of five planned WWTPs in Belgrade due to its favourable location, proximity to the Danube River and optimal connection to the sewage network.
This WBIF technical assistance grant finances the preparation of technical documentation for the WWTP Batajnica, wastewater collection system and pumping stations.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the wastewater treatment infrastructure will also have economic and social benefits as the investment will result in: (i) an increased number of investors in the City of Belgrade, (ii) new opportunities for small business development and job creation, (iii) increased property value. There is a potential impact on private businesses already present in the region but also on future business development by removing one of the key constraints to urban development.
