Orient/East-Med Corridor: Detailed Technical Project Design and Tender Preparation for Fushe Kosove/Kosovo Polje - Mitrovica Railway Line on Route 10

Project Description

Railway Route 10 in Kosovo is 149 km long, extending from the administrative border with Serbia in the north of Kosovo* (near Leshak station) to the border with North Macedonia (Hani i Elezit station). Route 10 is part of the extension of the Core Network Corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) into the Western Balkans. It connects Kosovo’s railway network with the regional and European network through Corridor VIII and Corridor X in North Macedonia. Its rehabilitation is the first major investment in the railway sector in Kosovo divided into three phases:

  • Phase 1: Section Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje - Border with North Macedonia (Hani i Elezit station)
  • Phase 2: Section Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje - Mitrovicë/Mitrovica, and
  • Phase 3: Section Mitrovicë/Mitrovica - Border with Serbia (Leshak station).

This investment concerns Phase 2, i.e. the rehabilitation and partial upgrade of the railway section between Fushe Kosove and Mitrovice, approximately 35 km long. In 2015, WBIF approved the TA grant for the preparation of detailed technical project design and tender documents for the rehabilitation of this section.
