The line Bar - Podgorica - Vrbnica is the main railroad in Montenegro, transporting around 20% of the passenger and 60% of the freight volumes. The line passes through mountainous areas and, due to the difficult terrain, has many structures, including 107 bridges, of which 16 are steel and composite bridges and 91 are concrete bridges.
This investment concerns the rehabilitation of 90 reinforced concrete bridges and viaducts. The total length of the bridges is 5.33 km with a total deck area of around 30,000 m2. The length of the bridges varies from 6 to 167 m and the span from 6 to 20 m; the height of the column of the bridges varies from 5 to 28 m.
As part of previously provided WBIF support, a detailed inspection of the concrete, reinforced concrete and prestressed railway bridges on the Bar-Vrbnica railway line was carried out from November 2014 to September 2015.
This WBIF technical assistance grant has funded the preparation of Main Designs, containing the design documentation for the rehabilitation of 90 reinforced concrete railway bridges verified through Design revision in accordance with the national regulations, Procurement Plan, and Tender documentation for Works and Works Supervision.
