Skopje - Kicevo is the central section of Rail Corridor VIII in North Macedonia, one of ten Pan-European corridors connecting the Adriatic and the Black Sea by an east-west land route. Along its route, Corridor VIII is interconnected with Pan-European Corridors IV, IX and X.
Given that Skopje - Kicevo railway line is single-track, not-electrified, with an outdated signalling and telecommunication system, WBIF has supported the preparation of a Pre-feasibility Study for upgrading the existing railway infrastructure on this section thus improving the condition, interoperability and safety on Rail Corridor VIII.
Specifically, technical assistance included the preparation of strategic and technical options analysis, conceptual designs, institutional capacity assessment, bill of quantities, Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Cost Effectiveness Analysis (CEA), procurement documents and plan, and environmental considerations.
