The section of the Pan-European Corridor X in North Macedonia connects Serbia with Greece, from the state border with Serbia near Tabanovce via Kumanovo - Skopje - Veles to the state border with Greece near Gevgelija. Also, Branch Xd of the same Corridor connects Veles via Prilep to the state border with Greece near Kremenica.
The aim of this investment is to improve the interoperability on Corridor X by installing the Global System for Mobile Telecommunications for Railways (GSMR), which is a communication system for railway networks utilising GSM technologies (2G) and specific applications for railway operations in line with EU standards.
WBIF has provided technical assistance for the preparation of a Pre-feasibility study with a specific focus on the introduction of the GSMR on railway Corridor X (Tabanovce - Gevgelija) and Branch Xd (Veles - Bitola - Kremenica), in compliance with national legislation, IFI requirements, and EU standards.
