As part of the wide-ranging rail reform programme, Kosovo* has envisaged the rehabilitation of the existing railway line from Pristina to Pristina Airport, the construction of the missing link from the existing line to the terminal, and the construction of the railway terminal within the airport. This would enable Pristina and Kosovo to have an interoperable railway network, improve transport capacities for passengers and freight, enhance traffic safety, reduce emissions, and develop multi-modal transport.
In 2013, WBIF financed the Feasibility Study for the General Rehabilitation of the East-West Railway Lines in Kosovo which included conceptual ideas for a rail link to Pristina Airport.
Building on the findings of this study, WBIF awarded another €1.1 million technical assistance grant in 2017 for the preparation of a Pre-feasibility Study including an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and simplified Cost-Benefit Analysis for the general rehabilitation and construction of railway line Pristina - Pristina Airport "Adem Jashari".
