Kosovo, Construction and Rehabilitation of Healthcare Infrastructure: Feasibility Study, Conceptual Design, Other

Project Description

Health services in Kosovo* have been provided through a network of health institutions organised into three levels: primary (PHC), secondary (SHC) and tertiary (THC).

The University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (UCCK) is a unique institution that represents both secondary (for the Pristina region) and tertiary healthcare institution that provides advanced health services, hospital services, and post-university education. However, UCCK is in a poor physical condition without physical connection among buildings, making the transportation of patients from one clinic to another very difficult and conditioning the transfer of patients in open-air.

In addition, there is no specialised institution in Kosovo for treating patients in terminal stages of illness. Providing a hospice or respite care facility would help families and patients to receive the support they need. There is a need for a stationary institution, with about 50 beds, easy access, 24/7 services, and organised patronage services for some of the patients in need.

This WBIF technical assistance grant is dedicated to the preparation of a Feasibility Study, Cost Benefit Analysis and Conceptual Design to identify the needs for (a) enabling access for disabled persons in existing secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions (b) construction of corridors between the clinics at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo; and (c) construction of a hospice centre for palliative care for terminal patients.
