Albania has the lowest fixed broadband penetration in the Western Balkans region. Hence, there is an urgent need to take all necessary measures to improve the situation in order to match European standards and bring clear benefits to the citizens from digital infrastructure.
In 2020, WBIF allocated a technical assistance grant for the preparation of a Pre-feasibility Study for the development of a broadband atlas for Albania.
The assistance is expected to deliver technical requirements for an interactive broadband atlas platform through broadband infrastructure mapping, service mapping, mapping of internet requests, and broadband investment mapping. The overall objective is to improve access to online knowledge sources, online services, and labour market forces for the public and private sectors.
