The investments in the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and related infrastructure in the municipality of Ulcinj aim at improving the deficiency in water supply and sanitation infrastructure, remedying bottlenecks and shortcomings of the existing systems, and increasing the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of the water utilities. The anticipated impact includes water loss reduction and the reduction of direct discharge of untreated wastewater into the sea.
All investment measures are divided into two components. Under the first component, it is planned to install/rehabilitate 90 km of pipelines (for water, sewerage, and stormwater) and to build/rehabilitate 30 objects of water and waste-water infrastructure (pumping stations, wells, reservoirs, BPC and sea outfall).
The second component includes the installation of over 12 km of sewerage pipelines and the construction/rehabilitation of sewerage pumping stations with the construction of the first part of WWTP. The proposed measures allow the creation of the backbone system for future wastewater disposal in the Ulcinj Town Area. This investment will serve as a basis for future investments focusing on increasing connection rates to sewerage.
Technical assistance, provided through WBIF, will cover the preparation of Conceptual and Detail Designs, Environmental Impact Assessment study, and Tender Documents for the second component of the planned investments.
