The energy sector of Serbia relies predominantly on fossil fuels (70%) and hydropower (30%) and was mostly in balance. According to the Low Carbon Development Strategy Draft and the draft version of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), intensive development of renewable capacities in the Serbian power sector is foreseen in order to achieve the increased ambitions of the Republic of Serbia to reduce GHG emissions by 33% by 2030 compared to 1990.
One such development is the construction of the solar photovoltaic power plant Morava in the wider area of the Svilajnac settlement on the location of the existing thermal power plant Morava. The plant is expected to produce nearly 60 GWh of electricity and displace 70,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. The Morava PVPP is part of a larger effort to clean up the site, diversify energy sources and support decarbonisation of the Serbian electricity sector.
Technical assistance, provided through WBIF, will support the preparation of a set of studies and technical documentation: Pre-Feasibility Study with General Design, Feasibility Study with Preliminary Design, including Cost-Benefit Analysis and Land remediation documentation, Design for Construction Permit, and Tender Dossier for the award of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract for the development and construction of PVPP Morava.
