WBIF has supported the preparation of the Feasibility Study and Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the construction of approximately 108 km of a bi-directional gas pipeline between Serbia and Bulgaria. The new development will cater to about two billion cubic meters per year and will thus contribute to the diversification of energy sources in Serbia and the wider Western Balkans region. It will also support faster integration of the region into the EU energy market, improve competition and ultimately attract more investments.
The Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector has been identified in the EU's Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans as one of the Flagship investments, fostering the transition from coal to more sustainable and green energy production.
