The geographic position of Croatia gives good access to the Central Europe Gas Hub (CEGH) based in Baumgarten, Austria, and further on to the markets of Central and Western Europe - Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic - as well as the Western Balkans.
The construction of an LNG terminal in Omišalj on the island of Krk has been of exceptional energy strategic significance for Croatia. The undoubted need for the transmission of natural gas creates excellent opportunities to develop the Croatian gas transmission system.
WBIF has provided a €1 million grant to assist with the preparation of the Feasibility Study, including the Environmental Impact Assessment, and Preliminary Designs. In addition to the LNG terminal, the assistance was used to evaluate the gas pipeline connection from the terminal to the Croatian gas network. A conceptual solution and a market study were also prepared.
