WBIF has provided a grant for the preparation of the Pre-feasibility study to examine and evaluate the options for the interconnection of the existing and planned natural gas systems of BiH and Croatia, capitalising on the planned gas pipeline along the Adriatic Coast - the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP).
There were two potential routes to be considered: the first one was Zagvozd (Croatia) via Posušje (BiH) to Travnik with a branch to Mostar, and the second was Ploče (Croatia) - Mostar - Sarajevo (BiH).
It was determined that the first proposed route is more acceptable and, as such, was recommended for further development. This transmission pipeline, approximately 136 km long (21 km in Croatia and 115 km in BiH) with a 48 km branch connection to Mostar, would create the preconditions for the development of the natural gas markets of the southern part of BiH to a volume estimated at one billion cubic metres per year.
