The construction of wastewater management systems and the improvement of water supply have been recognised as priorities in the Montenegrin environmental sector. In order to improve the insufficient administrative and project management capacities at both central and local levels, the Government of Montenegro has established a National Project Implementation Unit - PROCON, tasked with providing expertise for implementing programmes in the area of communal services and environmental protection.
WBIF has provided support during the preparation of tender dossiers for the design and construction of the wastewater treatment plants in the municipalities of Bijelo Polje, the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, Berane, Plav, Rozaje, as well as the preparation of the tender dossier for the sewerage network in the Municipality of Niksic, together with the upgrade of the water supply system in the Municipality of Andrijevica.
The implementation of these investments will bring numerous environmental and socio-economic benefits, such as significant improvement in the quality of drinking water, wastewater effluents and natural environment, public health improvement, sustainable tourism development, and economic growth enhancement, among others.
