Within the scope of the Serbian government programme on judiciary facilities improvement, prisons were also encompassed. Considering the increase in the prison population and problems with the regional and local allocation of existing district prisons compared to actual needs, it has been decided that the construction of two new prisons should be considered a priority. In this way, additional space in prison facilities would be created for 900 inmates by constructing new district prisons in Kragujevac and Pancevo for 400 and 500 inmates, respectively.
WBIF has provided comprehensive technical assistance for the preparation and implementation of the investments. This TA grant, the second in a row, financed the preparation of the Preliminary, Urban and Main design for the Kragujevac District Prison and related Technical Specifications for equipment and furniture in the prison.
